FOUNDERS
Meisie de Wet & Jan de Wet.
The infamous Vincent van Gogh once said “Great things are done, not by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together”.
This quote by the famous artist articulates perfectly, the journey of our founders Jan and Meisie de Wet who took the first small step which laid the foundation of what we are today. Jan started his career in 1977 selling MVA Tokens and Travel Insurance Policies and out of these humble beginnings came forth the Jan de Wet all have come to know and respect. As to be expected, Jan was not one to be left static and ascended quickly through the ranks to become a highly respected and coveted Short-term Insurance Broker. It was during his tenure as Branch Manager in Richards Bay Kwazulu-Natal, that Jan and Meisie decided to establish their own independent brokerage named Jan de Wet Insurance Brokers cc, in 1996.

In a small 2m x 4m office armed only with a single desktop computer and his unparalleled determination and work ethic, Jan engaged the market with Meisie by his side, supporting him in the office as well as on the home front. Their dedication towards the goal elicited endless days and sleepless nights, many of which you would have found 3 children asleep under an office desk. Notwithstanding the many challenges, Jan and Meisie persevered and successfully built an eminent insurance brokerage in Zululand with a revered reputation, a reputation that would withstand the test of time. Jan believed the secret to success in business, was to engender trust and cultivate longstanding relationships, which Jan did with distinction. This philosophy resulted in client relationships stretching well over three decades, some of which are still ongoing to this very day.
In 2001, through acquisition, Jan joined a National Brokerage where he held the title of Branch Manager throughout his tenure. In 2018, with the invaluable support and assistance of his wife Meisie, Jan decided it was time to pass on the torch and put in motion the sequence of events that lead to the establishment of DEWET INSURANCE BROKERS (PTY) LTD.
A great deal can be said about Jan and Meisie, in reference to their professional journey of almost three decades, as commendable as it was however, their love and dedication to family, especially their three children, takes pole position. To Jan and Meisie, family is everything and therefore everything is family, evidently so by the way they raised their children, interacted with their peers and treated their clients.
The culture of “family in business” combined with their dedication to excellence and client centric approaches formed the cornerstone of the DEWET INSURANCE BROKERS (PTY) LTD culture we know and experience today.
It is therefore appropriate that we honour these extraordinary individuals for their many achievements and sacrifices. Their journey paved the road towards the culmination of a lifelong dream, shared by their children, to carry on the legacy in what can literally be referred to as a family brokerage. We will be forever grateful for the wisdom and knowledge imparted to us by Jan and Meisie and lest we forget their devotion and support which assisted in realising the dream.
All who have encountered Jan and Meisie throughout their journey had the privilege of calling them friends, family, and colleagues, it is however our distinct honour to call them Mom and Dad.
